This documentary is a bit off the beaten path, but worth a watch if you’re in the market for a documentary that delves into the inner workings of a family business and the people, processes, and philosophies behind it.
There is a lot of material here that is pretty eye-opening and I’ve been to a lot of family businesses before, so I’m not going to go into too much detail, other than to say that I feel for the Webers and their problems.
Ive seen a lot of documentary about family business, but its hard to say exactly what is so eye-opening. Ive seen a few documentaries that make it sound as if people work a 9-5 job, but Im not sure if thats really true.
To me its pretty obvious that the Webers have a lot going on. It seems like this is just a normal family business with a few quirks. That is, while the Webers have a lot going on, the business is structured in such a way that they are unable to control what happens to the business.
Weber family businesses are family owned and run, and its rare to see someone in the Webers’ community who doesn’t have a job. One notable exception is the patriarch, Larry, who is a retired police officer. Larry has a huge house on a lake in the middle of nowhere, and he hires two security guards to make sure that nobody gets to the lake.
One of the things that makes carl and the family business unique is that Larry owns a small number of shares in the business, and the other, the “family business,” has no shares in the business. In the past, a person would have to buy shares in the family business to become a shareholder. No longer. Larry says that the family business is now worth over $1 billion and is one of the largest family businesses in the world.
The family business is a well-known online gaming community, and the community has long enjoyed the perks of this. However, the community can also be a dangerous place to be in if you’re not careful. The family business has its own police force, which is made up of cops and security guards who have the full backing of the internet. They have their own laws, and the community is completely autonomous, so if you violate the laws they have, they will take your life.
