We know how to deal with the situation, but not how to deal with the problem. Sometimes it’s an impulse that comes over us when we’re on our own, and we think, “I’d better do something about this.
We can avoid the problem by finding a great friend, but we can’t avoid the problem by being alone. It’s the problem that comes with not having a good buddy. We all have to face the hard truth that we can’t control what happens in our lives.
The most common case of this goes all the way back to the beginning of the internet at its most nascent. When the internet was really just a bunch of Usenet users exchanging information, the first thing we did when we met someone new was, “Well, what do you do?”. The internet is not a place where you just sit and chat, its a place where you can meet people, talk to people, and work on your career.
Most of us are in a constant search for something, someone, or something that will bind us to each other. The internet is a place where we can connect with people and make friends in a way that doesn’t involve spending hours on the phone or meeting up at a bar. People are more comfortable and open to new experiences on the internet than they would be in a bar or other type of social setting.
I’m a big fan of the internet, especially online dating. But I also like going on business trips with my friends. I like that when a guy meets me at a restaurant that I’m not meeting him at his office, it’s the same place. That way I can feel like a normal, normal guy. But that’s just one of my things.
